There are many kinds of Electrical connector products nowadays. Most high-quality Electrical connector products are usually plated with precious metal on the nickel diffusion barrier layer. For example, the use of palladium in LED waterproof connector products aims to prevent metal contamination of the connector base layer from spreading through the coating and reduce contact interfaces. Therefore, the material used for the contact interface needs to be thick enough to reduce the risk of operational wear and provide a corrosion-resistant mating surface for contact. The required thickness of the metal coating usually depends on the operating environment, the ability of the electroplating method, and the expected number of cycles of fit and non fit during the service life of the equipment.
When the product needs to work in a more corrosive environment, LED waterproof connectors need to be sealed or plated with sufficient thickness to maintain a non porous contact area, depending on the porous nature of the electroplating process, and additional electroplating layers may be required to prevent plating holes from being exposed to the substrate. In applications that do not require contact movement during operation and are not in corrosive atmospheres, cheaper non precious metals can be used as electroplating materials for contact interfaces.
The failure rate of connector products usually depends on their design characteristics and working environment, and a standard connector system operating under normal commercial parameters may fail once every 10000 successful contacts during its service life. However, for highly durable LED waterproof connectors, depending on the performance of the plug, they can be reliable under normal conditions up to only ten faults per million contacts. To achieve this possibility, it is usually necessary to maintain an airtight and non corrosive contact interface throughout the entire service life of the connector, as dust and other particulate matter in the air may be a continuous source of problems depending on the plug.
